My New Favorite European City ... Siena!

One of the best days of my life, at least in the top 5! Siena is amazing and unbelievable! I cannot even begin to describe to you how important it would be to put on your top 10 lists for traveling destinations. It seems like an undiscovered gem of Tuscany. There are very few tourists, you can walk for hours and see so many A-M-A-Z-I-N-G views, and the prices are cheaper that the larger cities.

Kate, Leriam, Keith, Alina and I started out at the train station and walked towards the center of town, the piazza el campo and looked around for something to eat. We found a great, cheap little place right in the piazza and the food was so good. After lunch we went to check out the cathedral. We didn’t want to spend money going in, but I think it has one of the best façades of any church I have seen in Europe, I loved it! Then we wanted to just walk and wander until we found something to do. The weather was a bit rainy at some points, but for the most part it was a very mild and nice day. We walked and found a little path that we took and it led us to a beautiful viewpoint that was free:) you could see for miles and miles, all around Tuscany. We wanted to stay forever, so we just sat along a wall with our feet dangling above the city and took pictures and sketched for a good 45 minutes. Then we explored even more finding so many breathtaking views, beautiful landscape, interesting architecture and fun places to sit and talk. We walked to the fort where the wall begins and found a very random, but cool little carnival. It was practically empty, but we decided to go in and see what it was all about. We went in and saw the swings ride and paid for a ride. It was such a fun and enjoyable trip back to childhood, we had a blast! Then we got Nutella crêpes and went off walking again. We decided to eat dinner at the same place as lunch, just inside instead of outside. We all ordered different things and for dessert I had some wonderful tea and cookies. We had a very long dinner and ended up staying at the restaurant for about 2 hours, It was great. By the end of our meal it was time to start heading back on our way. We stopped at a few little stores just to see some more on the way, then we took the train back into Scandicci. None of us wanted to leave… it was an amazing trip, and it only cost us about $16… best $16 I have ever spent!!!

It was kind funny cause all of us throughout the day progressively liked Siena more and more. Keith and leriam both have traveled the world and by the end of our day both of them and the other three of us ALL said it was our favorite city that we have ever visited (besides our homes:) )

One of the things I would for sure recommend for anyone traveling to Siena is to make no plans at all! Just buy your train ticket, hop on and when you get there, just start wandering, you will discover the most amazing things and you wont even believe the joy you will get from the exploration! This was a blessed day and I thank God for all the joy I experienced today!!!!
